Douglas commenced his career in a technological and skills college 26 years ago after qualifying as a teacher from University of Strathclyde. He worked as a lecturer and senior lecturer in business and management and was a pioneer in the development of a digital curriculum to upskill adults in employment. During his career he was seconded to Scottish Qualification Authority to work with the college sector in modernising and developing Higher National qualifications to meet the needs of students in industry sectors such as creative industries, agriculture, and engineering.
At the beginning of April 2025 Douglas was appointed Principal of Dumfries and Galloway College following 5 years as Depute Principal. He continues to provide strategic leadership to deliver a student experience which meets the ambitions of a diverse student population and ensures that learning and teaching is current, relevant and provides pathways for learners to further study or employment.
